How to create Membership programs that work

Over the years we have created quite a few revenue streams. The ones I like the most are our member based programs. We have membership sites, done 4 you services on continuity, micro-continuity etc.

What I like the most about them is the fact that I know ahead of time how much money is coming from these programs. These allow us to sleep at night and to have all the bills paid because of these programs. For a long time in my life I kept awake at night just thinking of what I would do to pay the bills on the next day.

But there are many other benefits.

Most offline businesses are not familiar with the concept of continuity programs or member based programs.

When we started promoting this week’s webcast I even got some e-mails from people saying this didn’t apply for their business. Funny enough, one of them was a guy that owns a Gym. What is his business model after all if not a member based business?

The fact is that your business is not different and online, offline or with both you can create membership programs that can bring another stream of revenue to your business or, if you want, can be run as a totally separate business.

It is this Thursday that we’ll give you the outline on how to create your own membership program. Don’t miss this one because it can bring a lot more profit into your new year.

How to save Twitter stream in Chronological Order

This is a very useful post by Paul Gillin and I’m sure a lot of people will love this.

If you’ve ever tried to transcribe a Twitter chat or conversation thread around a particular keyword or hash tag, you know that converting the chain to chronological order can be a real hassle. Whether you copy and paste a thread from Twitter search or a chat-hosting service like Twebevent, the default presentation is reverse-chronological, with the most recent posts at the top and the earliest at the bottom. Using Word, the only way to change the order to chronological is by methodically cutting and pasting posts into a new document. Ugh.

I’ve discovered a way to automate this conversion using one of my favorite tools: the open source Notepad++. Here’s how you do it:

Copy and paste the thread into Notepad++
Select all text and choose TextFX|TextFX Tools|Insert Line Numbers.
With text still selected, choose TextFX|TextFX Tools|+ Sort ascending and remove the check mark
With text still selected, choose TextFX|TextFX Tools|Sort lines case insensitive (at column). This sorts the lines by number in descending order.
With text still selected, choose TextFX|TextFX Tools|Delete Line Numbers or First Word.
You’re done!

You can also use Notepad++’s lightning-fast search and replace feature to pretty up the formatting. For example, search for “@pgillin” and replace it with “@pgillin: to bold-face the name of a contributor to the conversation. Or replace hash tags like “#sm” with “social media” to make the conversation accessible to the uninitiated.

Because Notepad++ is a text editor and not a word processor, it removes all formatting from any document you cut and paste into it. However, this shouldn’t be a problem with Twitter chats because Twitter doesn’t support formatting itself. If you know a little HTML, you can always add back the formatting with Notepad++’s search/replace function.

Continuity Programs Lead to Positive Cash Flow

You might be wondering how to start a new business that would guarantee you a continuous cash flow. The answer is to create a continuity program. If you have a niche for a business, for sure a continuity program would best work for it.

The following will give you the idea how:

1. Launch a Media Club

With this you don’t only give your customer a larger scope of the products you offer but at the same time a media exposure. This is a wise way on how to start a new business since it allows having an automatic process of billing and enables you to determine on a month to month basis your members.

2. Information dissemination programs

Keep your customers well informed about your business through ebooks or podcasts programs.

3. Expert based programs

People would always take the preference of an expert and they wouldn’t mind even if it would cost them. In this light, an expert based program can bring forth continuous cash flow from customer’s subscription.

4. Devoted Customers

One way on how to start a new business effectively is to have continuity programs that would draw your customers closer to your business. These customers would then give a positive testimony with regards to your business. This is actually a very effective way of advertising and is for free.

5. Make it easy

When costumers have to subscribe on one program you have set up, make it very easy for them. Fix the terms and agreements of such subscription and the terms of payment (e.g PayPal, DalPay). Also let them have the feeling that their payments are secured by using SSL (secure socket layer).

Is Facebook Still Good to Market Your Business?

This is a question I’ve been asked a lot lately.

With the new changes on Facebook, despite its huge audience is it still a good tool for business owners? Let’s take a look…

With the new layout of the fan pages, tabs go away and you cannot land new people on a specific page where you ask them to like your page. The already challenging task of making them engage with a fan page increases here.

When you ask friends to like your page, the request does not show anymore below friend requests. You need to find it under requests on the right side of your feed. Do you remember to check that?

Add that to the fact that now you need to periodically check if there are messages that were qualified as spam on your wall and release them.

Events now have their own button and don’t show anymore below your friend requests. Do you click on events button? One more thing to do every day if you are a networker and if you are not, why click? If you rely on Facebook to fill seats, bring people to meetings, teleseminars etc, it just became more complicated. It was not very good before either because people would just click attend with no intention of really attending but now there is one more hoop to go over.

Even the pay-per-click ads on Facebook generate leads but very few buyers, and we have tested this in several industries.

Don’t forget the fact that you must interact with people on your profile and pages as much as you can because if you don’t your feed will stop showing on their wall. Facebook has an algorithm that checks who you are most likely to be really friends with and selects for you who sees your messages. If you are more of a listener type, you might have about 8 people showing on your feed and vice-versa.

So, is it worth to spend time marketing on Facebook?

If you don’t have a strong presence online, you are just starting a new business, need to have more visibility and create awareness, Facebook can be really good to you. If you figure how to get attention with the visibility you get there and do something different than every one else is doing. When you open your feed you probably see everybody giving tips. What are you going to do that is different?

If you want to brand your company, have a budget to spend on apps, contests etc. Facebook is a good option. You can use it as a broadcast channel to broadcast your voice, podcasts etc. We have deepened relationships with clients and prospects, got quite a few interviews and speaking gigs from Facebook too.

Branding, visibility, awareness are the biggest benefits Facebook can give you when marketing your business there. Don’t expect to build a business just with Facebook but don’t discard it as part of your marketing mix.
